After crossing under the river, we walked around the Isle of Dogs and Canary Wharf, seeing where Brunel launched the giant SS Great Eastern that laid the first transatlantic cable. And it rained...

Weather forecast: rain, rain, dry, more rain. Trains: lines closed for engineering works. Not deterred we chose a different start point - Maze Hill - and set off.

Day 1, part 1: On the way to London

Planning

We have had the crazy idea of trying the walk the Thames Path, or perhaps half of it. It will have to be done in stages throughout the year, but it is still worth a try. The first decision to be made is 'upstream or downstream'? We have opted for upstream, because we figured that if we start in the glitz and glamour of London, then maybe the boys will get a bit more interested in it, and we can take it from there......
